Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell first covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. She traveled along with President Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss issues including and the Iran Contra controversy.
